• 40.4% of Louisiana has an artificially fluoridated water-supply.1 Louisiana Revised Statutes Annexed § 40:5.11 requires all municipalities with over 5,000 residents to artificially fluoridate the water-supply, however municipalities are not required to initiate fluoride programs unless the state provides sufficient funds to cover the costs. Communities can opt-out by collecting signatures from 15% or more of registered voters and holding a referendum at the time of the new municipal election that achieves a simple majority (50% +1).
